Educating the young generation for an environmentally responsible Serbia

Project Objective:
The aim of the project is to more actively involve young people in education, advocacy processes, and communication with stakeholders and the public in the field of health and environmental protection, with a particular focus on the safety of food contact materials. Through the implementation of this project, which is also planned to continue throughout 2026, ALHem continues the Youth Program launched in 2024, this time under the title “Youth for a Non-Toxic Environment in Serbia 2025/2026.”

Engaging young people in advocacy processes and improving dialogue and cooperation with decision-makers and other stakeholders will contribute to increased youth participation in decision-making processes related to the safety of food contact materials and articles, with the aim of reducing the risks posed by hazardous toxic chemicals in consumer products. This will enable:

  1. the initiation of an initiative for full harmonization of national legislation with EU regulations in food contact materials that are not yet aligned;
  2. the verification of the implementation of regulations prescribing migration limits for lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) in ceramic tableware; and
  3. raising public awareness about the importance of banning PFAS in consumer and other products.

The final beneficiaries of the advocacy process will be all citizens of Serbia.

Implementation Period: 01 January 2025 – 31 December 2025 (with a planned continuation in 2026)

Donors: The project is implemented in partnership with the Czech organization ARNIKA – Toxics and Waste Programme, with financial support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, as part of the Transformation Cooperation Programme.
