Safer Chemicals Alternative

Safer Chemicals Alternative–ALHem is a civil society organization located in Belgrade, dedicated to advancing sustainable development with an emphasis on chemical safety management.

Established in 2013 by professionals with significant expertise in chemical management, the association draws support from a diverse constituency of individuals, institutions, and organisations interested in and qualified to assist in addressing the key issues central to our public advocacy initiatives.

STRENGTH OF THE ORGANIZATION
The organization's strength is rooted in the extensive expertise of its team in chemicals management within Serbia and the EU. It benefits from a strong reputation and a robust network of contacts, including international and EU organizations, public administration, the business sector, laboratories, civil society groups, consumer associations, academia, and the media. The team also has substantial experience collaborating with government institutions, developing and overseeing the implementation of strategic public policy documents and legislative frameworks in the field of chemical management, and providing proficient project management.

ALHem applies scientifically validated knowledge regarding the adverse effects of specific chemicals, as well as established methods for their substitution and safe management. The organization aligns its activities with global policies in this area, specifically adhering to the principles and strategy outlined by the Global Framework on Chemicals.

ALHem’s initiatives support the realization of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, notably Goal 3—Target 3.9: reducing mortality and morbidity resulting from hazardous chemicals and pollution; and Goal 12, which focuses on responsible consumption and production—Target 12.4: promoting environmentally sound management of chemicals and waste.
